I wouldn't be too excited about this. My guess is Hart got a solid setup man (or closer) for a career 3A pitcher that has no chance of making it to the majors.

If that's the case, then Shapiro once again has sold this team out. If that's all Shapiro got, then it reeks of collusion.

I hope I'm wrong, and they got a legitimate prospect, but so far Shapiro has had his lunch handed to him by everyone he's dealt with, both GMs' and agents alike.

Wow...I was just looking at ESPN like two hours ago and it was just in the rumors stage. Coolness!

    Question

    Bye!
would you just have kept Rocker and risked the dissension in the clubhouse? He has talent, it is nice for you all to say that, the weird thing is how you all are willing to discount "talent" in the players the indians got in the trade.
Anyway...just about Rocker, they at least got someone back, we all knew it wasn't going to be anything big, but hey, at least they don't have to worry about him anymore. Too bad it wasn't to a NL team.

Hawaii007: I'm not advocating keeping him for long. What I would like for them to have done is wait until July. If Rocker is pitching well, then you can get something in return.

One of the most sought after commodities in mid season are setup men and closers. That's when they are at a premium. Virtually every team in the race is looking for one.

Yes he caused some dissension, but we still one the division with him on the team. And, I will say that most of the dissension was not actually caused by Rocker. It was Manuel and Hart's fault more than anyones. They're the ones that made him the team's closer - despite all the players objections.

I have heard many rumors that Lofton was the guy causing most of the problems with Rocker in the clubhouse. He was rumored to be trying to get the other players to complain to the front office that they didn't want Rocker on the team.

Besides all that, how many teams have no players that aren't controversial and disliked. Ask Giant players how they feel about Bonds, or Yankee players about Mussina. Those are just 2 names that come to mind quickly. Rocker isn't exactly a Carl Everitt. He doesn't pop off at his teammates or the manager. His problem is more with the media and fans.

    Thumbs up

It should not have taken too much of a genius to know the ods of Rocker opening the season with the Indians was slim and none....

    Bye!
I can see your point of risking to hold on to him until July...but if he doesn't pitch out of his funk, he is going to be even more worthless now then he was now. Oh well.
The only thing I don't like about this trade is who we got in return. I looked at the AAA roster for Texas and they had some pitchers who had some pretty impressive numbers. Elder didn't have numbers that great, but he does seem to be one of those "power arms" averaging a strike out an inning. So maybe he can turn it around. Who knows. But definitely there were at least two other pitchers and one hitter I wouldn't have minded getting my hands on instead. haha...you would have thought Rocker has more talent then Rincon, shouldn't we have gotten a Giles equivalent for Rocker at least? wink

You know, we never seem to be the team that bamboozle's the other team into giving up a good young player for mediocre talent. Oh well, maybe once Shapiro settles down and learns how to deal with team's other GMs, he'll be the guy stealing players from other teams.

What a Christmas present. Please tell me it's true.

Here's what the inside of the card sez:

    Dear Mark S,

Thanks for taking over the Indians' GM position for me. Sorry for leaving you in the dumps. I'll take Rocker off of your hands to compensate. Merry Christmas!!!

    Love and Kisses,
    Johnny H
